Back then Seiko has it ‘6139’ which was discontinued in 1980 while Heuer’s Calibre 11 being upgraded to a Calibre 12 within a year. Not only Zenith’s El Primero has out lived its rivals, it has an oscillating speed at 36,600 bph that could accurately measure time within 1/10th of a second and a power reserve to 50 hours.
This piece – Zenith El Primero Chronomaster Grande Date 03.2160.4047/01.c713 comes with a 45mm case that features a polished crown engraved with Zenith’s star logo, two chronograph pushers, an open case back with a sapphire crystal, screw lock with water resistance upto 50 meter and the automatic movement – the El Primero calibre 4047.
White Dial with tachymeter at the circumference, the minute counter track a brighter silver to provide a contrast to the dial.
The hour and minute hands are polished and half luminous material while the chronograph hand is in color blue.
The Grande Date aperture is at 2 o’clock, while the moonphase complication is at 6 o’clock. As the day passes, the moon will shift along to replicate the shape of the moon in the sky. Behind the moon is the AM/PM discs, rotating once every 24 hour, reflecting the sun and a sky blue or golden stars on a deep blue background
